Jog falls

Apparently, the highest waterfall in India, Jog falls ( alternatively also called Gerusoppe falls) is created by the Sharavathi river that falls from a height of 253m(830 ft).

How to reach & what can you do: Board Talguppa express from Bengaluru at 11 PM and you will reach Talguppa next day morning at around 8 AM. Jog falls is around 20km from Talguppa. Walk out of the station and catch a private bus on the main road that will take you to Talguppa. Hopefully, you should reach Jog falls at around 9.30 AM. If you are lucky and there is not much fog, you will capture a good view of the falls. You can also go near the falls by taking around 1400 steps. You will get a view as seen in the first picture. Be careful, especially in monsoon season, while taking the steps – they will be slightly slippery. You should be able to spend around a good 3 hours, then have lunch at KSTDC Mayura hotel and head back from Jog falls. Take a bus to Sagara which is around 30-45 min ride. You could either head back to Bengaluru if you had already booked a bus or if you have time you could visit Keladi and Sigandur. To head back to Bengaluru, you can board Talguppa express at 8 PM at Talguppa or 8.20 PM at Sagara. You will reach Bengaluru at 4.30 AM next morning.

Belur, Halebidu

Temples of Belur and Halebidu are one of the marvelous wonders of Hoysala empire. These temples are examples of finest Hoysala craftsmanship. Very detailed and intricate carvings will leave you mesmerized.

How to reach there?

Distance from Bengaluru: around 230KM

By train: Catch Janshatabdi express at 6.00 AM from KSR Bengaluru station and reach Arsikere at around 8.30 to 9 AM. Walk for around 500 m from station to reach Bus station. Take a direct bus to Belur – It may take 1.5 hrs though it is 50km. Most likely you will reach Belur by 11 – 11.30 AM. Walk for around 1km to reach Chennakesava temple from the Belur bus station. You might want to spend a couple of hours at this temple. Start back at around 2.30 PM and take a bus to Halebidu (Get into Arsikere, Javagal bus and get down at Halebidu). You will reach Halebidu in 30 mins. Hoysaleshwara temple is right in front of the busstand at Halebidu. You might want to spend 1-1.30 hrs. Take a bus to Arsikere and reach in about 1 hour or so. You have a train to catch at 6.30 PM at Arsikere that goes to Bengaluru. You will reach Bengaluru by 9.45 PM.

By bus: From Majestic, take a bus to Hassan – around 3-4 hrs journey. Take a Belur bus from Hassan – around 1 hour journey. So, if you catch a bus from Majestic at 6 AM, you should probably reach Belur by 11 AM. Spend couple of hours and go to Halebidu. At Halebidu, you might want to spend 1-1.30 hrs and take a bus directly to Bengaluru or come to Hassan and then to Bengaluru.
